A Y-cable is a cable shaped in the Latin letter “Y.” It is also called a splitter cable, which splits a cable to allow additional connections. It contains three ends where one end splits into two ends. Y-Cables come in various shapes and sizes, but they are usually short and less than 12 inches.
Y-cables have various uses. One such use is to split an RCA connection. For instance, if your TV only has one input for an RCA cable, you can combine the red and white RCA connections into one to fit your TV.
Another use is to combine two RCA connections to fit a 3.5mm plug, so you can hook RCA level sound quality into earbuds, headphones, or other stereo equipment.

Enables a PC sound card, portable CD player, MP3 player, iPod, or any audio device with a 3.5mm mini-stereo jack to connect to an audio device with RCA cables. Another use is to split headphones or other audio listening inputs into two or more. So for instance, if you’re traveling on an airplane and watching a movie on laptop, you can use a splitter so two people can plug in two sets of headphones into the laptop to watch.
