Benefits of Magnifiers

Magnifiers are great because they help to enhance vision. They enable people to undertake detailed work or compensate for a sight disability that lowers an individual’s vision. Magnifiers are valuable when one most focus on fine detail. In hobbies such as model-making, stamp collecting and cross-stitch, an individual will often use a magnifier so they can see intricate detail.

Magnifiers have specially designed lenses that bend light. This increases the size of text or a smaller object, making it better to see. To get the best focus on the task in hand, hold the magnifier close to the your eye. Then bring the work up towards it till optimal focus is achieved.

When carrying out intricate tasks with a magnifier, one should work in the natural light as much as possible to avoid straining the eyes. Where it is not possible to work with natural light, or where natural light isn’t adequate, utilize an adjustable light fixture. This allows light to shine directly on to the area being magnified.

Different magnifiers should be used for different tasks. Larger lenses tend to be less powerful than smallish lenses. Large lenses are useful when an individual wants all-round, low-level magnification. Large lenses work effectively for tasks like reading or completing a crossword. Where precision work is needed, a small powerful lens may very well be more appropriate. A good example of a smaller, powerful magnifier would be jeweler’s magnifier.

Handheld magnifiers are easy to use and cheap to buy. Some handheld magnifiers have built-in illumination, making it easier to see when the lighting is poor. These magnifiers are well suited for reading small print while active because they are light to transport. The disadvantage of some handheld magnifiers is that they leave the individual with merely one hand available to carry out tasks. This is fine if the individual is only holding a book, newspaper, and also magazine, but this may be restrictive.

Hands-free magnifiers are probably a better option for anyone with a hobby that demands the use of their hands, such like sewing, knitting, or model-making. Hands-free magnifiers hang around the individual’s neck. This is great for other assignments too, as they have large lenses. This version of hands-free magnifier offers small magnification, usually only doubling the size of any object.

Night vision cameras are most often used for video survelliance purposes.

Night Vision Cameras

A night vision camera, which falls under the night vision devices (NVD), is an optical instrument that permits observation, photography, and video recording in extremely low-light or no-light conditions. It records video in levels of light approaching total darkness. These cameras are most often used by the military, police, other security forces, and are also available to civilian users. Most civilians do not use these cameras for recreation and wildlife observation.

In terms of the technology and how night vision cameras operate, Wisegeek says this:

There are two primary technologies used for a night vision camera. The first, and most common, is a photomultiplier tube, or “conventional night vision,” operating in the near-infrared frequency range, picking up light waves about 1 micrometer wide (human vision can only see light with a frequency between 0.4 and 0.7 micrometers). The second is thermal imaging, which allows a night vision camera that can take pictures even in cases where light is absent. This is because thermal cameras can see the electromagnetic radiation released by blackbody heat that emanates from every physical object. PTZ Cameras

A PTZ camera, also known as pan-tilt-zoom camera, is a camera with the ability to zoom and change directions via remote. The PTZ relflects the movement options of the camera. They are often used with professional video cameras in television studios, but the remotely controlled automation systems are generally sold separately without the cameras.

Pan, tilt, and zoom models may be used as computer security cameras both indoors and outdoors. Many versions have internal blowers and heaters, which enable exterior use in cold and wet weather conditions. IP Cameras

An IP camera, or an internet protocol camera, is often referred to as a network camera. It utilizes internet protocol to transmit video and other images over internet connections. They are similar to CCTV cameras which send video signals to a video monitor and recording system, but IP cameras usually stream content to a network video recorder (NVR) or a PC, rather than to a digital video recorder (DVR).

Wikipedia says there are two kinds of IP cameras:

  • Centralized IP cameras, which require a central Network Video Recorder (NVR) to handle the recording, video and alarm management.
  • Decentralized IP cameras, which do not require a central Network Video Recorder (NVR), as the cameras have recording functionality built-in and can thus record directly to digital storage media, such as flash drives, hard disk drives or network attached storage.

Bullet cameras are most often used for video survelliance purposes, but are also common as helmet cameras (cameras attached to helmets to catch the point of view of the person wearing the helmet, often for bikers).

Bullet Cameras

A bullet camera derives its name from its relatively small size and its long and cylindrical shape. They can be placed inside or outdoors and are typically used for security purposes. In terms of indoor uses, they are normally used for indoor security as concealed video monitoring devices; for outdoors,as outdoor security because of their durable and stationary forms. Bullet cameras can even be small enough to be concealed within something like a stuffed animal to create a so-called “nanny cam” or large enough to be a plainly visible deterrent form of external security.

“Many times, external security will feed into a closed-circuit video system that allows viewing at certain locations but ensures the video image is not transmitted on usual television frequencies. A bullet camera in such security systems can often be seen at banks or convenience stores, and with increasing frequency around large parking lots or parking structures where crimes can happen far from crowded areas.
